Primary responsibilities of a Wellness Coach:

• Provide coaching tips that are closely aligned to the Diabetes Prevention Program
• Coach individuals and groups using evidence based wellness tips – ensuring that all recommendations are founded in research and supported by known best practices in the medical community
• Consult with our medical director if and when medical based questions arise
• Avoid medical consultations and refer participants back to their medical professional

Behavioral Based Coaching
• Use behavioral based coaching to facilitate movement through the change continuum
• Enact Motivational Interviewing techniques when meeting opposition to change with participants or groups
• Match written communications style to the individual participant for optimal engagement in lifestyle change
• Provide coaching that mindfully considers cultural, religious , and economic backgrounds and differences

Required Qualifications:
• Bachelor’s degree in a health related or counseling field
• Excellent written and verbal communication
• Experience with computer and web-based applications to manage consumer data
• Ability to work non-traditional and flexible work hours as needed to promote a positive participant experience. This may include early mornings, late evenings, and weekends.

Additional Desired Qualifications:
• Direct experience with the Diabetes Prevention Program
• Experience with coaching techniques, motivational interviewing, and other behavior modification strategies that encourage activation and behavior change
• Registered Dietitian, Certified Health Education Specialist (CHES), or other related wellness certifications or qualifications
• Prior experience in public health, health assessment tools, program planning, reporting, and evaluation
