    Teaching Matters, a leading non-profit educational organization and Partnership Support Organization for the New York City Department of Education (NYC DOE), is seeking an exceptional leadership coach to support its network of schools. Teaching Matters’ mission is to develop and retain great teachers and measurably increase their ability to give students in urban public schools an excellent education.

    The leadership coach will guide principals and their school cabinet to implement systems and structures that will ensure teacher effectiveness and student success.  These structures are defined by the NYC DOE Citywide Instructional Expectations and the Quality Review.

    The leadership coach is supported by the network and an achievement coach who works with the school at least two days a month. The work will include at least one full day of support per school per month and a one day instructional walk with the network team led by the leadership coach. Based on data analysis and the network team instructional walk, the coach will work with the school cabinet and the network team to identify a set of strategic priorities that will guide the school cabinet and the network supports.

    On site:
    The leadership coach will provide on-site support to each school cabinet twice per month. S/he will serve as the primary contact between the school and the network and will remain in weekly contact with each school via phone and email.

    The leadership coach will help lead monthly network team meetings, help lead monthly workshops for network principals, and participate in weekly meetings with the network leader on Tuesday afternoons.

    Key responsibilities:

    To Schools
    – Coach school leadership on establishing and/or refining the systems and structures necessary for improving student achievement, as measured by the Quality Review (QR).
    – Oversee implementation of Instructional Expectations starting with Year 1 goals to ensure all schools are actively putting key structures in place:  (supervisory structures, common coherent curriculum, common assessments, time for team planning, RTI, MOSL, Danielson)
    – Develop school specific action plan with network team and school cabinet outlining strategic priorities for support and school leadership.
    –  Serve as primary contact to principal  for the network and as the primary liaison between school leadership and network on key instructional issues and be familiar (cc’d) with related strategic operational issues.
    – Provide targeted supports to build the capacity of school leadership.
    – Ensure equitable access to network supports including staff time; resources erring to provide additional support to highest priority schools.
    – Ensure school satisfaction with network supports as measured by school survey.

    To Network
    – Identify network wide challenges and opportunities to develop network supports.
    – Co-design and/or deeply inform agenda of network meetings.

    To Network School Teams
    – Review progress on goals and action plans with school and network team providing support and supervision to ensure effective implementation.

    Minimum

    ·         Extensive knowledge of Charlotte Danielson’s Framework for Teaching.
    ·         Knowledge of the DOE’s accountability tools, including the Progress Report and the Quality Review, and achievement resources, including Periodic Assessments.

    ·         Ability to coach classroom teachers and school practitioners who provide staff development for classroom teachers.
    ·         Evidence of a record of successful collaborations within school communities and demonstrated strong interpersonal relationships with colleagues and school administrators.

    ·         Demonstrated mastery of pedagogical and subject matter skills with an understanding of and experience in addressing the complexities of classroom life.

    ·         Willingness to travel to assigned schools, which may be located across the city.
