Career Collaborative is a Boston-area organization that identifies motivated low-income adults and inspires them to transform their lives and become role models in their families and communities. We understand that for these adults to build family-sustaining careers and break the cycle of poverty, they must get and succeed at good jobs that pay a fair wage and offer growth potential. Through extensive job-search training and assistance and two years of consistent coaching, Career Collaborative has transformed the lives of hundreds of families. While other organizations estimate that only 25% of their clients are continuously employed for two years, 63% of Career Collaborative’s clients reach or exceed this benchmark.

Key Responsibilities Of The Career Coach

Provide pro-active coaching (telephone, e-mail, face-to-face meetings) to 50 to 75 clients to help them make career progress.
Help clients deal effectively with situations at work and at home that might otherwise threaten their employment. Teach them problem-solving and conflict-resolution skills.
Teach clients about workplace culture and rules, and employers’ expectations.
Identify client needs for support services and provide referrals.
Be an active member of the Career Collaborative team including but not limited to facilitating groups.

Qualifications

Understand the problems faced by low-income people and the barriers that make continuous employment difficult.
Excellent coaching and problem-solving skills coupled with an ability to motivate adults over a sustained period of time. Exceptional interpersonal skills.
Understanding of written and unwritten workplace rules, and the attitudes and behaviors that make for continuous employment and career advancement.
Results oriented individual with excellent organizational skills, attention to detail and proven ability to handle competing priorities.
Five or more years of stable progressive professional work experience.
College education preferred.
