50% As Academic Coach, provide individual instruction and small group seminars to undergraduate and graduate students in areas of self-management and organization, task and time management, effective reading and writing strategies, test taking strategies, and breaking free of self-defeating behaviors.
20% As Transition Coach, provide individual instruction to students in areas of self-management and negotiating the complexities of university life. The Transition Coach will assist students in arranging services and will facilitate communication between students and other University units (i.e., Transportation, Housing, Financial Aid, etc.) with which they conduct business. Collaboratively work to establish and update university policies and procedures regarding services to Students with Disabilities.
20% Promote clear understanding of student needs through communication with medical professionals, psychotherapists, government agencies, professional organizations, and other University offices.
10% Provide educators and parents of prospective and current students with information on transition issues and differences in educational law between K-12 and higher education. Promote awareness of current legal issues, technology available to assist students with disabilities, best practices in service delivery, and effective policy formation.
Required Qualifications*
Master’s Degree in counseling, psychology, special education, rehabilitation, tutoring/teaching study skills, student services administration, or social work Knowledge of disability law (IDEA, 504, ADA-AA). 3-5 years’ experience working in a post-secondary educational environment
Desired Qualifications*
Doctoral Degree in counseling, psychology, special education, rehabilitation or social work. Experience in program development. Academic Coach certification through International Coach Federation (ICF) or other professional training program accredited by ICF.
